Board of Trustees

Camp Nejeda is owned and operated by the Camp Nejeda Foundation, Inc., a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization. The Camp Nejeda Foundation Board of Trustees is comprised of volunteers committed to making an immediate, positive, and lasting impact in the lives of children with type 1 diabetes. Read about the members of our board and their Nejeda stories below:

  • I have been on the Camp Nejeda Board since 2012, serving as President since 2016. My connection to Nejeda began many years earlier. In the summer of 1983, only two months after being diagnosed with diabetes at age 9, I was a Nejeda camper. The opportunity to spend two weeks with many other kids with diabetes had a tremendous positive impact on my well-being at the time. And I can proudly brag that at the end of that session, I won an award for “Best New Diabetic!”

Many years later, not long after I began working at Novo Nordisk, I had the chance opportunity to meet Michael Barszcz, who was then President of the Camp Nejeda Board. When he learned about my professional background and that I was a former Nejeda camper, he encouraged me to get involved and I am so happy that I did! Having lived healthily with diabetes for more than 40 years, I am a strong believer in the camp and its mission. Now more than ever, children and teens with diabetes need the opportunity to spend time away from home to learn how to manage their condition confidently in an empowering, supportive, and fun environment. And I believe families also benefit from having a break from managing diabetes.

I have worked for Novo Nordisk since 2011 in a variety of roles in Legal and HR. I currently serve as the company’s U.S. Ombuds & Sr. Facilitator. Prior to 2011, I worked at multiple law firms. Outside of my professional life, I love nothing more than spending time with family and friends. I live in Princeton, NJ with my wife and two sons, one in high school and one in college.

  • Hello. I am Stephen Barnes and am a seasoned healthcare industry professional currently serving as Sr. Director, Strategic Pricing, Specialty Care at Sanofi, where I have worked since 2013. Throughout my tenure at Sanofi, I have held various positions within the Market Access and Finance teams, with the majority of my career supporting the diabetes therapeutic area.

I joined the Camp Nejeda board after visiting during a community service day in 2023. I was deeply moved by the experience, particularly as my two young girls were starting their first summer at their local camp that year. As a parent facing the typical challenges of sending children to camp, I could only imagine the additional worries families face when sending children with Type 1 diabetes to camp. My professional knowledge from supporting the diabetes therapeutic area at Sanofi gave me unique insight into these challenges, inspiring my commitment to Camp Nejeda's mission.

Prior to joining Sanofi, I worked at Merck in Internal Audit and began my career at PwC as an auditor. I hold an undergraduate degree in Accounting from The College of New Jersey and a Master's degree in Accounting from Rutgers University. I am also an inactive CPA.

Beyond my professional achievements, I am a devoted father to Lena and Annie Barnes and husband to Robyn Barnes. In my free time, I enjoy skiing, scuba diving, and spending time/vacationing with my family.

  • My name is Ernie Post.  In addition to being a trustee of Camp Nejeda for more than 30 years, I am the Secretary of the Board and the co-Medical Director.  I actively participate on the Medical, Finance, Facilities and Executive Committees.  As a Pediatric Endocrinologist I became passionate about the lives of children with type 1 diabetes and their families, seeing how they had to adapt to the challenges of the disease.  Camp Nejeda offers the kids an opportunity to be “normal”, to be with others facing the same challenges and to be in a place where they can almost forget their diabetes because it is just part of the rhythm of each day.  I have enjoyed attending Nejeda as the on-site pediatric endocrinologist for at least a week every summer since 1991.

In addition to my roles at Nejeda, I am an active participant in Breakthrough T1D (formerly Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation).  I serve on the south Jersey Mission Board and as a Mission Information Volunteer, I disseminate information about the advances being made in Type 1 diabetes.  My other professional activities include teaching at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University and working with the NJ Department of Health and the Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute to refine and advance newborn screening for scores of diseases.

I have been a consistent, but slow runner for decades.  I ran one marathon, several half-marathons and am currently preparing for my 10th Broad Street Run (10 miles).  I am also a decent amateur woodworker with a well-equipped shop.  When not busy with any of the above, I enjoy moving in with family and friends for days at a time.

  • My name is Katherine Beckwith-Fickas, MD, MPH.  Known at Camp Nejeda as Dr. Kate, I am board certified in general pediatrics and pediatric endocrinology. I completed medical school at UMDNJ - Robert Wood Johnson and received my Masters in Public Health from Rutgers/UMDNJ - School of Public Health. I then completed a Pediatric Residency and Pediatric Endocrinology Fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. I currently work as a Pediatric Endocrinologist at Hackensack Meridian Health/K. Hovnanian Children's Hospital on the Jersey Shore Campus. I have been lucky enough to spend a week volunteering at Camp as the Pediatric Endocrinologist for the last 5 years and have enjoyed participating in the Camp Nejeda Medical Advisory Committee. I became a member of the Board of Trustees and Co-Medical director at Camp Nejeda in 2024.

As a teen, my best friend Kelly came to Camp Nejeda every summer, and I remember wishing I could go with her. She always returned with wonderful stories and, to this day, continues to have camp friendships. Exposure to my childhood friend with Type 1 Diabetes was an integral part of my decision to pursue a career in Pediatric Endocrinology. Spending time at Camp Nejeda was on my bucket list from the time I started medical training.

Camp Nejeda is a magical place for children with T1D and all the staff. I am honored to help children with T1D create classic summer memories in a safe and supportive environment. When I am not spending time at camp or seeing patients, I enjoy time with my husband, 3 kids, two dogs and extended family. I enjoy gardening and reading when life allows!

  • Hi, I’m Dr. Henry Anhalt. I’ve been part of the Camp Nejeda community for over 10 years—as a board member, former Chairman of the Board, and long-time Camp Doctor. I’m a pediatric endocrinologist and have spent my career working to improve the lives of people with type 1 diabetes through clinical care, research, and advocacy. I’ve helped lead medical efforts at organizations like embecta, Becton Dickinson, and T1D Exchange, where I founded a national quality improvement program to drive better outcomes for people with T1D.

Even with all that work on the clinical and policy side, nothing compares to the energy and joy I’ve seen at Camp Nejeda. Watching kids with diabetes feel completely at ease—laughing, learning, building friendships, and growing more confident each day—is what keeps me coming back. Camp Nejeda is a place where diabetes doesn’t limit you—it connects you. I’m proud to help support that mission.

  • My name is Taylor Ebling. I am originally from southern New Jersey and now live in New York City where I work as a lawyer in the technology industry. I was diagnosed with T1D at nearly 9 years old, and I was introduced to Camp Nejeda by my pediatric endocrinologist shortly after my diagnosis. I attended Camp for two summers and absolutely loved it. I was encouraged (an undisclosed number of years later) to join Camp Nejeda's Board by that same pediatric endocrinologist, who was and continues to be an active Board Trustee!

I am proud to have served as a Trustee since 2016 and believe wholeheartedly in the positive impacts that Camp Nejeda brings to the mental, physical, emotional, and social health of T1D campers and their friends and families.

Kevin Kaniuga

  • My connection to Camp Nejeda came through a dear departed friend of mine who had type-1 diabetes. His name was John Ryan and he was a wonderful and fascinating person who spent many summers at the camp showing his support for the kids, and teaching them by example that type-1 diabetes won't stop you living a full and active life, as long as you have the courage to take control of the disease.  When he passed away, everyone was heartbroken. Right then and there, I decided to volunteer for the camp, and donate the proceeds from our annual social reunion party to the camp in his honor. He was a record setting motorcycle rider. A book was written about him called "The Man Who Would Stop At Nothing,” and I would encourage anyone interested in the camp to read all about his life.

I have a Ph.D. in chemistry and have been working in the pharmaceutical industry for over 30 years, having helped develop many interesting medicines, including a few for diabetes. I teach chemistry at both the high school and college level, and am passionate about scientific literacy in our society.

I have five boys, and my wife and I enjoy music, dancing and traveling.

  • I am a proud member of the Board of Trustees at the Camp Nejeda Foundation, a role that marks nearly two decades of involvement with the camp. Diagnosed with type 1 diabetes as a child, I first attended Camp Nejeda in 2005 as a camper, later returning as a counselor and now serving as a trustee for the past three years. I credit much of my personal growth and professional direction to the community and lessons formed at camp and am committed to ensuring it continues to empower children with type 1 diabetes for generations to come.

Outside of Camp Nejeda, I work in Government and Regulatory affairs, specializing in electricity operations, markets, infrastructure, and development. I bring this same mission-driven energy to my work—advancing sustainable, high-impact solutions to today’s electrical challenges.

I am a first-generation Polish-American who values time with my family—both in the U.S. and abroad—as well as time spent outdoors snowboarding, hiking, camping, playing tennis and volleyball, or enjoying the beach with my dog, Nala. A passionate volunteer and community advocate, I aim to lead with purpose and heart, always seeking ways to give back to the communities that shaped me.

  • My name is Mathian Osicki. In addition to holding the privilege of being a board member at Camp Nejeda, I currently serve as the Integrated Talent Leader at GE Aerospace. Prior to joining GE Aerospace, I held the position of Chief Talent Officer at embecta, where I played a pivotal role in their spin-out from Becton Dickinson. My career also includes a significant tenure at IBM.

I hold a PhD in Industrial and Organizational Psychology and have a passion for contributing to the field of leadership development through publishing book chapters.

Outside of my professional life, I have a deep appreciation for the outdoors, having spent many summers camping in the forests of Canada before relocating to New Jersey. My family, which includes my husband, daughter, and our recently adopted Dachshund, is currently training our pet to become a diabetes awareness dog.

My connection to Camp Nejeda began during my time at embecta, formerly the diabetes care division of BD. After volunteering at the camp with my daughter, I developed a strong affinity for its mission. Subsequently, I was invited to join the board of directors. This connection became even more personal when my daughter was coincidentally diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, further deepening my commitment to the impactful work being done at Camp Nejeda.

What resonates most strongly with me is the empowerment and education of campers and families who graduate from Camp Nejeda. I am proud to be part of helping each new family become a better version of themselves after participating in Camp Nejeda.

  • I joined the Camp Nejeda Foundation Board of Trustees in 2025. I was introduced to the organization through my work in diabetes at Sanofi where I hold the position of Head of U.S. Communications, General Medicines. Through volunteer days, and other type 1 diabetes-focused events, I had the privilege of spending time with the team at Camp Nejeda.

Walking the grounds in person, hearing stories from parents of children with T1D and past campers was an emotional experience for me. I learned very quickly that this was a special place – one that allowed children with T1D to be themselves, to be kids, surrounded by others who understand the unique challenges of growing up with the condition. I was moved by the Camp mission and the community they have built. I sought to join the Board because I believe that my professional experience in Communications can help further that mission and ensure more families get to experience Camp Nejeda.

I live in Somerville, NJ, with my wife Rachel and our son JJ. When not working, I am out on my motorcycle, woodworking in the garage, or spending time with my family.
