In Memoriam

Therese (Terri) Hilger, 1965-2014

The Camp Nejeda Foundation is sad to announce the loss of one of our dear nurses, Terri Hilger, who began working at Camp Nejeda in 2009.  Terri worked as a Cabin Nurse, Night Nurse, Assistant Charge Nurse, and also as the Charge Nurse of the Newark Nejeda Day Camp in 2013.

Diabetes camp friends are family.  The common bond of diabetes brings us all together at Camp Nejeda, a setting that is like no other.  For anywhere from a week to a whole summer and more, we see the best and worst of each other – 24 hours a day, year after year.  The campers and staff at Camp Nejeda and the Camp Nejeda Foundation will miss working with Terri, who was one of the most wonderful, caring, funny, smart and dedicated people we know, who also had a wonderful sense of humor and positive outlook on life.

We thank the family for asking that, in lieu of flowers, gifts be made to the Camp Nejeda Foundation in Terri’s memory.

In Memoriam

John Charles Ryan, 1960-2013

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Camp Nejeda's friend, John Ryan, who was an inspiration to our campers and alumni. Rather than feeling limited by the challenges of living with type 1 diabetes, John pursued his passion for riding and became a living legend in the long-distance motorcycling community. We are truly grateful to his family for asking that, in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to the Camp Nejeda Foundation. We can think of no more meaningful way to remember John than to help empower other children with type 1 diabetes to follow their dreams.
